Uninstall old software

Now there are many pop-ups that the windows itself send us. Though these have been reduced in windows 7, windows 8and windows10. But other than these the pop-ups are sent by programs that you have installed. So if you are getting pop-ups from installed programs that you no longer use then it is best to uninstall them. Start by going to the windows control panel and then select add/remove programs. Now select the program you wish to remove. In this case look for anything that looks odd like something that you haven’t installed. Or if you do not recognize the app on your Windows 10. Such programs and apps can be a source of your pop-ups.  If you find any difficulty while installing the programs, then contact HP Desktop Support. You can also go to the task manager and see the list of programs that you have installed on your desktop. In both Windows 7 and Windows 8, you can uninstall the program by opening ‘programs and features’. For people using windows 7, you can begin by clicking on the start button and then go to the control panel. Then click on the programs option. This will display a list of all the programs that you have installed. For people using windows 8, you can just open the search option and type program and features. Now select all the programs you want to uninstall.

For stopping pop-ups while browsing in internet explorer-

First, open the internet explorer and then click on the tools button. Then select the internet option. Now go to the privacy tab and then under the pop-ups blocker select the turn-on blocker option. And finally, click on the OK option. If the pop-up still appears then in the setting go to the pop-up blocker setting. There look for blocking level option. Now from medium level change it to high blockage level.

For stopping pop-ups while browsing in Firefox-

First, start clicking on the Firefox button and then select an option. Then select the control panel. There you will notice a checkbox which says block pop-ups. Click on that checkbox and ensure it is selected. This will prevent the pop-ups ads coming into your computer screen. For assistance contact HP Desktop Support.

For stopping pop-ups while browsing in chrome-

In google chrome, by default, it prevents the pop-ups from displaying on your computer screen. Each time the browser blocks a pop-up from appearing, the blocked pop-up alert icon appears on the address bar. But in case if you can still see pop-ups ads in chrome then follow the steps mentioned below to prevent it-

  • First, start by clicking on the Chrome menu icon and then click on the setting.
  • Now type popups in the search bar
  • Then click on the content setting
  • Now look under popups. If it shows allowed then click on it turn off the allowed option.

For blocking pop-up from a site you do the following-

  • First on your computer open chrome
  • Then click on the three dots option at the top right.
  • further click on settings
  • Then present on the bottom click on advanced option
  • Now under privacy and setting click on content setting.
  • Then click on pop-ups and redirects
  • now under the ‘allow’ option look for sites
  • Then on the right of the site, click on the three dots and then click on block.
  • If the site you wish to block is not listed then next to the block option click on add.
  • Now enter the site website address. And then again click on the add option.

You can also scan for malware. As many a time, the pop-ups are seen due a virus infection and not because of the website you visit. In such a case, it is best to download the antivirus and scan your entire desktop. Also while running the scan make sure to do it in a safe mode.
